A Catherine Ogust Forever Dress

Created in the 1970’s the Catherine Ogust Forever Dress is so named because it never goes out of style.

This is an interesting story - I spotted this dress over the weekend at a friend of mine’s vintage store over the weekend and immediately loved it. But I didn’t know anything about it except that it had a vintage label that reads “Ogust for Penthouse Gallery” (the label is pretty shredded). It’s actually Catherine Ogust and she owned Penthouse Gallery according to the attached newspaper clipping.

But I did a little research and found out that (A) it has a sash that matches it…. somewhere (B) it’s from the 70’s (C) it’s called “The Forever Dress” because it never goes out of style and can be worn with a turtle neck underneath and other various accessories to help go through the seasons. (D) the design started out life as The Burma in the 1970’s when it sold for $36 and fans of the line collected every print. It wasn’t until 20 years later that the name the Forever Dress was bestowed on the design.

Here I thought I was just buying a caftan 😊
